Iris Figueroa-Irizarry is a Staff Attorney in the Domestic Violence/Family Law Unit. Iris represents survivors of domestic violence in civil protection order, custody, and child support matters and conducts intake at the Domestic Violence Intake Center in the D.C. Superior Court. She is a native speaker of Spanish and fluent in French.
Prior to joining Legal Aid in 2014, Iris was an associate at Paul Hastings LLP, where she worked in the Latin America Corporate Group and also represented clients in a variety of pro bono matters.
Iris received her B.A. in 2007, with honors, from Georgetown University. While in college, she interned at the Tahirih Justice Center and Amnesty International and also worked as an AmeriCorps teacher in Anacostia. Iris received her J.D. in 2010 from Columbia Law School, where she was a student attorney in the Human Rights Clinic and was selected for an externship with Sanctuary for Families, an organization dedicated to serving domestic violence victims. Iris also received an LLM in International Criminal Law from the University of Amsterdam in 2010.
