Neesa Sethi is a Staff Attorney who provides general resources and support for Legal Aid’s wide-ranging Pro Bono Program, which uses volunteers from the legal community to greatly expand Legal Aid’s capability to serve low-income D.C. residents. Neesa’s work has a special emphasis on establishing and managing pro bono projects and law firm partnerships, including projects focused on helping clients secure Social Security disability benefits and providing representation to clients with subsidized housing who are facing eviction proceedings.
Prior to joining Legal Aid, Neesa practiced law at boutique plaintiff-side litigation firms, Weisbrod Matteis & Copley PLLC and Gilbert LLP, where she represented policyholders in complex insurance coverage disputes and worked on matters in a range of other areas, including civil rights, consumer protection, and whistleblower claims. Neesa also clerked on the Supreme Court of Texas and served as a pro bono attorney at the ACLU Legislative Office. In addition, she served as an intern for the ACLU Immigrants’ Rights Project and the Federal Public Defender.
Neesa graduated with a B.A. and B.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. She received her J.D. with pro bono distinction from Stanford Law School, where she was a public interest fellow and served on the board of the Stanford Journal for Civil Rights & Civil Liberties.
