Oluwemimo (Wemi) T. Peters
Oluwemimo (Wemi) T. Peters is a Staff Attorney in the Domestic Violence/Family Law Unit. Wemi represents domestic violence survivors in civil protection order cases and clients in other family law matters such as custody, divorce, and child support. Wemi is currently a member of the D.C. Victim Assistance Network (VAN) Leadership Council. Wemi also serves as a faculty member of the ABA Commission on Domestic Violence where she has trained participants on representing victims of domestic violence in custody cases.
Prior to joining Legal Aid in November 2011, Wemi was a litigation associate at Winston & Strawn LLP. Wemi has volunteered and worked for a variety of organizations that provide pro bono legal services. While in law school, she worked as a family law student attorney for the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau and after law school, she volunteered as a pro bono attorney representing victims of domestic violence for the Legal Services of Northern Virginia.
Wemi received a B.A. in Psychology, a B.S. in Policy & Management, and an M.S. in Public Policy & Management from Carnegie Mellon University. She received her J.D. from Harvard Law School, where she served on the board of the Women’s Law Association and was co-president of the Coalition Against Gender Violence.
