We are proud to announce that Legal Aid has once again received Charity Navigator’s highest rating – four out of four stars – for sound fiscal management, accountability, and transparency. Charity Navigator is America’s largest and most-utilized independent evaluator of charities, providing donors with essential information to give them greater confidence in the charitable choices they make.

Since 1932, Legal Aid’s mission has been to make justice real – in individual and systemic ways – for persons living in poverty in D.C. While Legal Aid’s primary mission is providing legal services to low-income D.C. residents, we recognize that it is equally essential that we demonstrate good governance, transparency, fiscal responsibility, and other best practices, to maintain the trust and confidence of our donors.

4Star 125x125“We know how important it is for our donors to have full confidence that we’re using our funding wisely to accomplish Legal Aid’s mission of serving individuals living in poverty in D.C.,” said Executive Director Eric Angel. “This year’s 4-star Charity Navigator rating demonstrates to our supporters, once again, that we take our fiduciary and governance responsibilities very seriously.”

Receiving this “exceptional” designation is a testament to Legal Aid’s performance, as only one in five charities rated by Charity Navigator receives this distinction for consecutive years. As our annual Servant of Justice Dinner approaches, we are asking law firms, corporations, and individuals to provide Legal Aid with essential financial support for our work; in return, we vow to continue working our hardest to assure our donors that their contributions are being used efficiently and wisely.
