The Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia is proud to announce that we will be honoring David Young of Ropes & Gray LLP with the Klepper Prize for Volunteer Excellence at this year’s Servant of Justice Awards Dinner taking place on April 25th.

David Young, Ropes & Gray LLP

David Young is currently a senior associate in Ropes & Gray’s antitrust practice group. He began his legal career as a law firm fellow working at Legal Aid for approximately one year (2010-11) prior to starting as an associate at Ropes & Gray. During his tenure at Legal Aid, David worked with our Public Benefits Unit helping clients secure and maintain critical safety net benefits such as Supplemental Security Income/Social Security Disability Insurance (SSI/SSDI), Medicaid, Food Stamps, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (“TANF”).

Since starting at Ropes & Gray in the fall of 2011, David has maintained an extraordinary commitment to continuing his service to Legal Aid and our client community. He has regularly taken on SSI/SSDI pro bono matters referred from Legal Aid and other legal services organizations in the city. David not only volunteers to handle cases, he seeks out some of the most challenging cases we see -- both legally and procedurally complex cases, as well as working with clients who have severe mental health disabilities. He also consistently participates in Legal Aid’s annual Medicare Part D Initiative.

In addition, David has been instrumental in recruiting his fellow Ropes & Gray associates to get involved with Legal Aid’s Pro Bono Program by sharing his positive experiences and volunteering to supervise and mentor colleagues interested in working on pro bono cases. For the past several years, David has also served as one of his firm’s Generous Associates Campaign coordinators. For his steadfast commitment over several years to helping make justice real for his individual clients and others in Legal Aid’s client community, David is truly deserving of this year’s Klepper Prize for Volunteer Excellence.

We hope you will join us on April 25 at the JW Marriott (1331 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW) to celebrate David and our Servant of Justice Award Honorees, Vanita Gupta and Donald B. Verilli, Jr. We anticipate that the event will be attended by more than 600 leading lawyers and other supporters of the cause of making justice real for D.C.’s low-income community.
