Legal Assistant

Gabriela “Gaby” Mendoza is a Legal Assistant providing support and assistance to the DV/Family Law Unit and the Immigrants’ Rights Project. Prior to assuming this position in February 2020, Gaby worked at Legal Aid as a Legal Assistant/Intake Coordinator, splitting her time between the Intake Unit and the Domestic Violence/Family Law Unit. In that role, Gaby managed Legal Aid’s intake phone line, drafted hearing notes and subpoenas, and staffed Legal Aid’s walk-in intake hours.

Gaby graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Spanish and in Latin American Studies. Previously, Gaby interned with the American Bar Association Commission on Immigration. In this position, she managed the ABA detainee hotline, created transitional housing resources for detainees expecting release, and inspected federal detention centers to assess conditions.

In her free time, Gaby volunteers with the Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition to translate documents for immigration court cases. Gaby is fluent in Spanish.
