Karla Lora

Legal Assistant/Paralegal

Karla Lora joined Legal Aid as the Legal Assistant/Paralegal for the Public Benefits Unit in June 2020. Karla is a first-generation graduate from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Geneseo in May 2020 with a B.A. in Sociology and a minor in Political Science. At Geneseo, Karla was a scholar in the Ronald E. McNair Program and JFEW SUNY International Relations and Global Affairs Program. In addition to her coursework, she volunteered with the Migrante
Intercambio de Lenguaje y Cultura (MILC) program by providing English language tutoring to immigrant dairy farm workers in the area. Karla was also a student research assistant for the Anthropology department at SUNY Geneseo, where she investigated structural obstacles Latino immigrant farm workers and their families face in accessing medical care in Western and Central New York.

Karla previously interned for Congressman Jose Serrano who represents the 15th district of New York City, and two non-profit organizations; Sanctuary for Families and Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights. At Legal Aid, Karla provides support and assistance to the attorneys in the public benefits unit. Karla is fluent in Spanish.
