Marcia Hollingsworth

Senior Staff Attorney

Marcia Hollingsworth is a Senior Staff Attorney in the Public Benefits Law Unit. She represents clients in a wide range of public benefits matters, including Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, Medicare, and unemployment insurance.

Prior to joining Legal Aid in January 2019, Marcia was a staff attorney with D.C.’s Children’s Law Center (CLC), where she represented children in custody cases whose families were threatened by domestic violence, allegations of abuse, or high conflict in D.C. Superior Court. Marcia also represented adult clients in adoption, guardianship, and third-party custody cases. Before CLC, Marcia worked as a fellow at University Legal Services in the D.C. Jail and Prison Advocacy Project where she represented women with mental health diagnoses who were incarcerated or recently released in obtaining Social Security benefits.

Marcia received her J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2014. During law school, Marcia was a legal intern at the Center for Constitutional Rights in New York and served as a law clerk with the Public Defender Service for D.C. in the Community Defender Division. Marcia received her B.S. from Southern Connecticut State University.
