Renee Mims is a Staff Attorney in the Domestic Violence/Family Law Unit. Renee represents domestic violence survivors in a variety of matters, including civil protection order, custody, child support, and divorce cases.
Prior to joining Legal Aid, Renee worked as a judicial law clerk at the Superior Court for the District of Columbia on both the criminal and domestic violence calendars. In addition, Renee worked within several branches of the Court both prior to and while attending law school.
Renee earned her B.A. from Howard University and her J.D. from the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law. During law school, Renee served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate with CASA for Children of DC. In this volunteer role, Renee supported and advocated for the best interest of at-risk and vulnerable youth in the District’s foster care and juvenile justice systems. While in law school, Renee was also active in several extra-curricular activities including the Moot Court Team, in which she competed nationally and was recognized for having the second-best family law brief nationwide. Renee served as the 2021-2022 President of the Greater Washington Area Chapter, Women Lawyers Division of the National Bar Association (GWAC) and on the board of GWAC's charitable arm.
