Ashley Waddell Tingstad
Ashley Waddell Tingstad is a Skadden Fellow in the Consumer Law Unit. Ashley’s fellowship project focuses on combating abusive debt collection practices affecting low-income residents in the District of Columbia. She specializes in debt collection defense litigation before the Civil and Small Claims Calendars of the D.C. Superior Court. She also represents consumers in affirmative litigation under District and federal consumer protection laws. Ashley is fluent in Spanish.
Immediately prior to joining Legal Aid in September 2012, Ashley served as a law clerk to the Honorable Neal E. Kravitz of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Ashley received her B.A., with high distinction, from the Pennsylvania State University Schreyer Honors College and was the Student Marshall for the College of Liberal Arts at graduation. She received her J.D., magna cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center. During law school, Ashley was active in the human rights community and served as the Managing Editor of the Georgetown Journal of International Law. In addition, Ashley represented juveniles accused of crimes as a student attorney in the Juvenile Justice Clinic and worked as an extern at the Oversight Office of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions. Ashley also interned at the Florence Project in Arizona as well as the ABA Center on Children and the Law. Before law school, Ashley taught bilingual pre-kindergarten and fourth grade as a Teach for America corps member in Houston, Texas.
