Hannah Weinberger-Beder

Staff Attorney

Hannah Weinberger-Beder is a Staff Attorney in the Public Benefits Law Unit. Hannah represents clients appealing decisions regarding federal disability benefits, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). Hannah also represents clients in matters involving a wide range of public benefits such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and various District medical assistance programs before the Office of Administrative Hearings.

Prior to joining Legal Aid in July 2015, Hannah worked as a Skadden Fellow at Justice in Aging in its Washington, D.C. office. In her fellowship project Hannah advocated to enable more low-income older adults to receive health and personal care in their homes, and to avoid unnecessary institutionalization.

Before law school, Hannah worked at the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law where she managed a year-long project to increase the financial security of people with disabilities. During law school, she served as a legal intern with Equip for Equality, the Protection and Advocacy system in Illinois, and a law clerk with the Center for Responsible Lending in Washington, D.C. Hannah received her B.A. with honors from the University of Chicago and her J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Illinois where she was Editor-in-Chief of The Elder Law Journal.
