Securing Your Legacy: DC Estate Planning Workshop and Free Legal Clinic

Securing Your Legacy empowers DC residents with free “health and wealth” estate planning education, property check-ups, and connections to free legal services — helping you take steps today to protect your home and your family’s future.

Participants will learn about:

• Wills and other estate planning tools
• Powers of attorney and advance medical directives
• Beneficiary designations
• Protecting and transferring homes and other assets
• Strategies for preserving family wealth and preventing housing instability or home loss.

Eligible participants may also receive free legal help. During the event, participants can complete a property ownership check and legal intake. Those who qualify may be connected with participating nonprofit legal organizations for free legal representation after the workshop.

Advance registration is required, and attendance is capped at 200 people — so register soon! The presentation will be in English. Spanish-speaking assistance will be available on site, with individualized follow-up available for residents with other language needs. 

This event is hosted by DC Affordable Law Firm in partnership with DC’s Department of Insurance, Securities, and Banking (DISB) and with the support of DC's Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and legal services partners from Legal Counsel for the Elderly, D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center, Christian Legal Aid of DC, and Legal Aid DC.
