Brian Pratt, a Navy veteran who deployed twice to Iraq, came to Legal Aid’s new consumer courthouse office after he was sued on an old credit card debt. His Legal Aid lawyer saw that the debt was time barred – and also knew that filing a complaint to collect on time-barred debts violates consumer protection laws.
“Having Legal Aid on my side gave me more confidence in myself to be able to stand on my feet and pave the way for other veterans who may have similar problems.”
Legal Aid brought a counterclaim against the debt collector based on misrepresentation and was ultimately able to obtain a favorable resolution to the case for Mr. Pratt.
