Community Engagement
Sharing resources and connecting with neighbors across the District
The Community Engagement team works across the organization to expand the accessibility of legal services in the District, provide community legal education, and ensure that Legal Aid DC’s work is directly informed by the needs of the communities we serve. As part of this work, Legal Aid DC builds partnerships with community-based organizations to accomplish these goals, through on-site legal clinics, Know Your Rights presentations, informational tabling at events, and much more. Community Advisory Council
In 2018, Legal Aid DC created the Community Advisory Council (CAC), comprised of former Legal Aid DC clients, with the goal of engaging members of the community to provide feedback and guidance on our work.
Members of the CAC are active thought leaders with respect to issues facing our client community. CAC members meet with Legal Aid DC regularly to share their observations and concerns, to learn from Legal Aid DC’s attorneys about recent legal or policy developments, and to develop organizing and advocacy plans aimed at persuading the courts and DC government to better meet community needs.
