Legal Aid DC’s team helps eligible clients secure or preserve their immigration status, including through federal programs that protect survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking.

But as we have seen first-hand over the last few months, even immigrants with protected status aren’t safe. When a client was detained by ICE, Legal Aid filed our first habeas petition in federal court to secure his release, and staff drove in the middle of the night to pick him up and bring him home.

Please give today to ensure that more DC immigrants get the legal help they need.

Our Impact

Legal Aid DC client Farhana immigrated to the United States from Bangladesh after being pressured into an arranged marriage that quickly turned abusive. Legal Aid helped her obtain a protection order, a divorce, her own health insurance, and U.S. citizenship. Now, she is working as a case manager at a domestic violence organization where she supports other survivors.
