Jacob Speidel is a Staff Attorney in the Public Benefits Unit. He represents clients in a wide range of public benefits matters including Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, Medicare, and unemployment insurance.

Prior to joining Legal Aid DC in October 2025, Jacob was the Director of Tenant Rights for SeniorLAW Center, where he worked to protect the rights of older Pennsylvania tenants through direct representation, education, and policy advocacy. Before that, Jacob was a staff attorney at Vermont Legal Aid, where he represented older adults in a wide range of civil legal issues including Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment insurance, evictions, foreclosure, and guardianship.

Jacob graduated with a B.A., magna cum laude, in Mathematics from Pomona College. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the Harvard law School.

Not yet admitted to the Bar of the District of Columbia but admitted to practice law in another jurisdiction. Practicing law in the District of Columbia pursuant to D.C. Court of Appeals rule 49(c)(8)(A) under the supervision of Legal Aid attorneys admitted to the D.C. Bar and in good standing.
