Eyanna Kittrell

When a 2021 car accident totaled her vehicle, 26-year-old Eyanna Kittrell was shaken but grateful that her daughter and two younger brothers were unharmed. Three years later, she was shocked to learn that the other driver’s insurance company was suing her for $58,465 — even though she believed she wasn’t at fault. Ms. Kittrell turned to Legal Aid DC, where attorneys Amy Kaplan and Jojo Schmidt helped her prove that she didn’t cause the crash. With their support, Ms. Kittrell reached a settlement in June 2025 to pay only $5,000 through an affordable payment plan. “I would not have been able to handle this case without Ms. Jojo and Ms. Amy,” she said. “It’s OK to ask for help. Help is out there, and you’re going to overcome it.”
