Rosie Martin

When 62-year-old Rosie Martin* was wrongfully arrested, she feared the incident would jeopardize her decades-long career in finance and her new accounting job with a nonprofit. Although prosecutors declined to file charges, the arrest still appeared on background checks, putting her employment at risk. Determined to clear her name, she turned to Legal Aid DC, which connected her with pro bono attorneys from WilmerHale. Together, they built a strong case to seal her record quickly, ahead of the typical two-year waiting period. Thanks to their advocacy, Ms. Martin’s record was sealed without her ever appearing in court. “From the time I called until the time my record was sealed, I was treated with dignity, I was treated with respect,” she said.
