Policy Advocacy at Legal Aid DC

Legal Aid DC’s policy advocacy consists of partnering with District agencies, the DC Council, and coalitions to identify, develop, and implement policy solutions and systemic changes that benefit low-income DC residents. Working in tandem with our attorneys, we amplify the policy issues that directly impact clients in our housing, public benefits, consumer law, family law and domestic violence, immigration, and reentry practices. As part of the Systemic Advocacy and Law Reform Program, our team utilizes legislative, agency, and campaign advocacy strategies to change law and policy in DC. Our team also helps coordinate Legal Aid DC’s Community Engagement work and hosts the Community Advisory Council, ensuring that our policy advocacy is informed by the lived experiences of our clients and community. Learn more about our Community Engagement and the Community Advisory Council here.
