Maggie Donahue

Supervising Attorney

Maggie Donahue is a Supervising Attorney in the Housing Law Unit. Maggie represents individuals in eviction and other landlord-tenant matters before the D.C. Superior Court. She also litigates housing matters before administrative bodies, including the D.C. Housing Authority and the Office of Administrative Hearings. Additionally, Maggie engages in systemic advocacy efforts to improve the rights of tenants in the District. Maggie supervises Staff Attorneys, Loaned Associates, and interns in the Housing Law Unit. Maggie is proficient in Spanish.

Prior to joining Legal Aid as a Staff Attorney in December 2010, Maggie worked at Ayuda, Inc. as a J.D. Distinguished Fellow, where she handled primarily immigration cases. She also worked as an advocate for children with special education needs at the Children’s Law Center of Massachusetts.

Maggie graduated with a B.A., magna cum laude, from Colgate University, where she received the Hartshorne Award for excellence in philosophy and religion and was a member of the Konosioni Honor Society. She received her J.D., cum laude, from American University Washington College of Law, where she was a student attorney in the Criminal Justice Clinic and was a Dean’s Fellow. She interned with CASA de Maryland, Ayuda, the National Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights, and the Public Defender Service of the District of Columbia. While in law school, Maggie received “Outstanding Service Honors” for her pro bono service, and the 10 year anniversary “Outstanding CAIR Coalition Volunteer” award for her work as an intern at the Capital Area Immigrant Rights Coalition.
